Michelangelo’s David in Acrylics

This sculpture has a complicated history and Michelangelo wasn’t the first artist who started carving this marble.

The statue is of colossal size. It is more than five meters, or seventeen feet, high. Michelangelo was working on it from 1501 to 1504. It is arguably the most recognized statue in the world.

The Statue of David embodies the city of Florence, symbolizing independence and strength in the perfect image of youthful beauty.

While no reproduction could possibly replace the original, it inspires artists all over the world. I am one of them too – in acrylics, in pencil, in charcoal…

“I saw the angel in the marbel and carved until I set him free”. — Michelangelo
